Program Note
In recent months, I've fallen in love with Eloise Laws' eponymous 1977 album “Eloise” where she sweetly declares on the eighth track that “love comes easy.” And, while I am certain that familial and platonic loves come easy for me, I've wondered impatiently when genuine, romantic love will introduce itself.
let me be your orchid opens with the frustration and impatience surrounding the uncertainty of when love will come; but, eventually, it yields to the magic of acceptance--accepting that everything will be just fine. For me, part of the path to acceptance has involved the reparation of my self-esteem and the effort to sow the seed of self-knowledge. As an admirer of orchids, I've grown to love their finicky nature and have drawn an interesting parallel between myself and the flower--our standards might appear unrealistic to some. we may be “too much”or “too little” for others...but to the “right” person, we are just right. let me be your orchid is a message to that “right” person out there as well as it is a reminder to myself--that love will come easy when it is time.
